REFLEXOLOGY
What
is Reflexology?
Reflexology is a form of complementary medicine and involves massaging
the reflex zones in the feet.
There are 10 longitudinal zones in the body through which energy
flows. It is this energy flow that balances the body's energy,
restoring good health and boosting the immune system. Blockages of
this energy are thought to cause illness and dis-ease.
The
reflex areas found in the feet correspond to all parts of the body. By
having all the body represented in the feet Reflexology offers a means
of treating the body as a whole and not problems in isolation. This
allows symptoms and their causes to be treated.
What Happens During
a Session?
Shoes and socks are removed and the patient reclines in a treatment
chair. A medical history is taken and the feet are examined.
Using the thumb and fingers gentle but firm pressure is then applied
to the reflex areas of the feet.
The patient may feel different sensations in the feet as pressure is
applied, from bruised, feelings, to sharper sensations where imbalance
is present. There may also be a build-up of crystal like deposits
which the therapist works to eliminate.
Following treatment the eliminating systems of the body may become
more active in order to rid the body of unwanted toxins.. However,
these reactions should not be severe.
